University of Nebraska at Kearney students have embraced a transformative educational experience this summer through study abroad programs. Thirty-two Lopers ventured to Argentina, France, Spain, and Costa Rica, delving into diverse languages, cultures, and communities while earning academic credits overseas. Among them were Abby Trantham and Dylan Seitz, who returned with profound insights and unforgettable memories.
For Trantham, studying in Spain was a realization of her aspiration to become bilingual. Immersed in Spanish literature and language courses at the Universidad de Granada, she lived with a host family in Granada’s historic Albaicín neighborhood. Trantham’s journey was enriched by excursions to Ronda and Nerja, along with cherished everyday moments that shaped her cultural experience.
Accompanied by fellow student Daelynn Hofaker, Trantham found studying abroad to be a unique educational endeavor, offering insights beyond typical tourist experiences. The program not only challenged her academically but also deepened her passion for language education.
Meanwhile, Seitz, a history and modern languages major, explored France with five classmates and Professor Chris Jacobs. Their itinerary included visits to iconic landmarks in Paris before settling in Lyon for French language and culture courses. Seitz’s immersive experience extended to weekend trips to Geneva, the French Alps, and the Provence region, where he marveled at historical sites and embraced regional customs.
Seitz’s study abroad journey was a blend of academic growth and personal discovery. By navigating language barriers, cultural nuances, and historical legacies, he gained a broader perspective and newfound confidence as a global citizen.
These study abroad programs reflect UNK’s commitment to providing students with global learning opportunities. Trantham and Seitz emphasize that the value of such experiences transcends mere academic credits, fostering empathy, cultural understanding, and personal growth.
