Tulane University Law School recently welcomed 241 first-year students, marking the beginning of their academic journey with an oath of professionalism, orientation sessions, and inspiring words from faculty and administrators. The diverse incoming class represents a broad range of backgrounds, with students from various states and countries, bringing a wealth of experiences and ambitions to the law school.
Dean Marcilynn Burke expressed excitement about the new students, underscoring their potential to shape the future of the legal profession. The class of 2028 comprises individuals with diverse academic backgrounds, including political science, philosophy, journalism, and engineering, among others. Orientation Week kicked off with Assistant Dean of Admission David Weinberg welcoming the students, emphasizing the importance of community and support as they embark on their legal education. The week included the traditional Oath of Professionalism ceremony, symbolizing the students’ commitment to upholding the values of the legal profession.
Students also engaged in academic preparation sessions and were introduced to resources like the Dean Rufus Harris Peer Fellow Program, which pairs first-year students with mentors to guide them through their initial year. The faculty, including Professor Ron Scalise and Professor Frédéric Sourgens, offered words of encouragement, highlighting the significance of active learning, resilience, and a sense of belonging within the law school community.
