Harvard College upholds a strong commitment to academic integrity through its Honor Code, emphasizing honesty and fairness in learning. Students are encouraged to adhere to clear expectations and seek support when facing academic challenges. This year, Harvard College is enhancing its academic integrity initiatives by expanding the Honor Council’s collaboration with the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and introducing the first-ever Academic Integrity Week from March 31 to April 4, 2025.
Established in 2015, the Honor Council plays a vital role in addressing potential Honor Code violations, ranging from improper collaboration to citation errors. Recognizing common underlying issues such as time management struggles and collaboration misunderstandings, the Council has evolved to offer educational programs in partnership with ARC. This collaboration aims to empower students through academic coaching, fostering independent and self-regulated learning.
The Academic Integrity Coaching Program focuses on cultivating a growth mindset and equipping students with essential skills to prevent future Honor Code breaches. It offers resources on time management, clarifying academic integrity rules, and developing effective study habits. By guiding students in goal setting, strategic planning, and reflective practices, the program aims to instill a culture of responsibility and integrity.
Harvard’s commitment to academic integrity is further exemplified through the launch of Academic Integrity Week. This initiative celebrates and reinforces the importance of ethical scholarship through engaging events, workshops, and discussions. Students have the opportunity to interact with faculty, peers, and experts to delve into ethical dilemmas, learn academic best practices, and navigate the evolving academic landscape.
Qussay Al-Attabi, Assistant Dean at Harvard College and Secretary of the Honor Council, expressed enthusiasm for Academic Integrity Week, emphasizing the core values of integrity and honesty within the institution. The event serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue and reflection on principles of honesty, fairness, and truth, fostering a culture of integrity that prepares students to be ethical leaders.
As Harvard College continues to prioritize academic honesty initiatives, it underscores the importance of building a community where integrity and excellence go hand in hand. Academic Integrity Week stands as a testament to the institution’s dedication to nurturing a culture of integrity that shapes ethical leaders and fosters academic growth.
