The Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment has achieved a significant milestone with the successful installation of four central energy plant modules on-site. These modules, constructed in Malaga, are designed to provide heating, cooling, and electricity to the health campus through an advanced centralized system.
This innovative modular approach not only ensures a more efficient and environmentally friendly construction process but also minimizes disruptions by assembling the units off-site in a controlled environment before installation. Following the completion of structural works and the installation of building façade components, the energy plant modules mark a crucial step in the campus’s transformation.
The new building, seamlessly connected to the existing hospital at various levels, will facilitate easy movement for both staff and patients between the new and existing facilities. Progress is now underway on the Acute Mental Health Unit, focusing on masonry, structural steel, ceilings, and services to enhance mental health care delivery.
Recent milestones include the pouring of final roof slabs for the expanded Emergency Department, enabling the commencement of glazing, cladding, and internal wall work. As the redevelopment unfolds, it continues to generate employment opportunities for local residents, with over $10 million in contracts awarded to businesses in the Midwest region.
Upon completion, the upgraded Geraldton Health Campus will boast an expanded emergency department, a new intensive care unit, and high dependency unit, in addition to an integrated mental health service incorporating an adult inpatient unit and a mental health short stay unit.
Furthermore, the State Government is actively advancing the establishment of a new cancer treatment center at the Geraldton Health Campus. The significant project, allocated $1 million in planning funding in the 2025-26 State Budget, includes a $30 million investment to enhance cancer care services. This initiative is supported by a $9 million commitment from the Commonwealth Government through the Community Health and Hospitals Program, complemented by a $21 million election pledge from the State Government.
As the Geraldton Health Campus powers ahead with its redevelopment, the community can look forward to a modernized healthcare facility that not only meets the region’s current needs but also sets a benchmark for quality healthcare services in the future.
