NYU and LSE Launch Dual-Degree Program in Media Studies

A new chapter in academic collaboration was penned as NYU and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) solidified their partnership with the signing of an agreement for a dual-degree program. The roots of this initiative trace back to an initial memorandum of understanding inked in April 2024, which has now blossomed into a comprehensive educational endeavor.

NYU President, Linda G. Mills, and LSE President and Vice-Chancellor, Larry Kramer, came together at NYU’s Bobst Library to formalize the creation of the Media, Culture, and Global Cities program. This innovative two-year curriculum will culminate in students being conferred with an MA degree from NYU and an MSc degree from LSE. The inaugural cohort is set to commence their academic journey at LSE in the fall of 2026, followed by a year at NYU to complete their studies.

The Media, Culture, and Global Cities program is a testament to the collaboration between NYU’s Department of Media, Culture, and Communication and LSE’s Department of Media and Communications. It offers students a distinctive opportunity to immerse themselves in the realms of media studies in two iconic global cities – New York and London. This multi-site experience will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of media and urban dynamics, under the mentorship of esteemed faculty from both institutions.

President Mills emphasized the significance of this dual-degree program, citing its role in fostering international academic connections and breaking down geographical barriers. The program not only leverages the strengths of both institutions but also capitalizes on the vibrant media landscapes of two world-renowned cities, offering students a rich and diverse educational experience.

This latest agreement marks the third collaborative effort between NYU and LSE following the initial memorandum. In August 2024, the two institutions approved a student-exchange agreement enabling cross-institutional academic opportunities. Subsequently, in March 2025, they announced a joint research seed fund aimed at supporting faculty research projects in key areas of mutual interest and expertise.
