The University of Tulsa proudly showcased its diverse student body on International Student Recognition Day. Among the bustling crowd was a group of exceptional individuals representing UTulsa’s commitment to global education and cultural exchange.
These standout students, hailing from various corners of the world, embodied the essence of a university student navigating through academic excellence and cross-cultural experiences. Kalu Amah, an English doctoral candidate from Nigeria; Chloé Merlet, an exchange student from France; Kwame Mawuenyega Ackah pursuing an MBA from Ghana; Youssef Ben Jerbania, a business exchange student from Tunisia; and Hana Alebachew Mengist, a master’s student in computer science from Ethiopia, stood out for their active involvement in the Association of International Students and completion of the esteemed Global Leadership Program.
The day’s agenda was filled with enriching activities, starting with the students witnessing the proclamation of International Student Recognition Day at the Oklahoma Capitol. This proclamation underscored the invaluable contributions of international students to Oklahoma’s economy, extending far beyond financial impact to enriching the state with diverse perspectives and innovative ideas.
Engaging in insightful discussions with state legislators, these university students delved into topics ranging from politics to personal experiences, fostering connections that transcend borders. The day continued with a delightful barbecue lunch, group photos, and a tour of the capitol building, offering a glimpse into the heart of Oklahoma’s governance.
As the students observed a Senate session and participated in a bill debate, they gained firsthand insight into the legislative process, further solidifying the importance of active participation and engagement in society.
The event not only celebrated the achievements of these university students but also highlighted the significant role that international students play in shaping the educational landscape of Oklahoma. Their presence serves as a testament to the enduring value of global education and the impact of fostering cultural understanding among future leaders.
