Perth brothers’ alleged killer’s girlfriend becomes key witness

Mexican authorities believe they have a crucial witness in the murder case of three friends from Australia and the United States, after the girlfriend of one of the suspects turned against him.

  • Callum and Jake Robinson, from Perth, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad were found dead in a well in Baja California, Mexico.
  • Ari Gisel García Cota, girlfriend of suspect Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, told police he confessed to killing the men and stealing their truck tires.
  • She is now a key witness for the prosecution.

Girlfriend’s testimony could be critical

Prosecutors allege Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota drove Ari Gisel’s car to the campsite where the friends were staying. They believe he killed the men, took their tires, and put them on her car before returning home.

According to Ari Gisel’s testimony, Jesús Gerardo told her he had “f**ked up three gringos” and showed her the vehicle with the victims’ tires. She then fled to her mother’s house and contacted the police, offering to help with the case.

Judge questions if one person acted alone

Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota is currently only charged with kidnapping in connection with the deaths. Ari Gisel and Cristian Alejandro Garcia, Jesús Gerardo’s brother, have only been charged with drug possession.

The judge expressed doubt that one person could have kidnapped and killed three men, and suggested the prosecution investigate additional suspects.

Parents plead for justice

The Robinson parents, Martin and Debra, are heartbroken by the loss of their sons. They have called for their sons’ killers to be brought to justice and expressed their desire to bring them home to Australia.

Victims remembered

Callum Robinson was a former professional lacrosse player, while Jake Robinson was a doctor pursuing a career in medicine. Jack Carter Rhoad was a recruitment worker who was due to be married soon.

The investigation into their deaths is ongoing.
