Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education, has opened applications for French higher education institutions to host the Summer Schools in France program. This initiative, previously known as Community College in France (CCF), aims to enhance student mobility between the United States and France by offering immersive academic experiences.
The program, in partnership with Community Colleges for International Development (CCID), caters not only to community college students but also to those from Minority Serving Institutions (MSI). Since its inception, the program has provided short-term, intensive summer programs tailored to US community college students, selecting 52 participants in 2025.
Looking forward to 2026, French higher education institutions will host summer camps focusing on sustainability, exploring themes like business, law, development, artificial intelligence, and culinary arts. These programs seek to showcase how technical and economic innovations can promote environmental stewardship and social equality.
Now in its sixth year, Summer Schools in France has established itself as a sustainable model for study abroad, fostering strong connections between French institutions and US community college students. This is crucial as only a small percentage of study abroad participants come from community colleges, often due to financial and logistical hurdles.
To bridge this gap, the program offers an affordable international experience through low-cost tuition and work-study formats. The rigorous selection process ensures academic quality, providing value for participating students. Additionally, hosting a Summer Camp in France presents French institutions with an opportunity to expand their network of US colleges and enhance international partnerships.
Interested French institutions can submit proposals for the 2025 edition, focusing on sustainability. The selected institutions for 2025 include Université de Strasbourg, N+i Engineering Institutes in Paris and Nice, ESSCA Business School in Angers, and Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne, each offering boot camps on sustainability-related topics.
The results of the 2026 call for projects will be announced in mid-November 2025, with student applications opening later in the fall. Prospective participants are encouraged to review the application details and submit their applications by October 31, 2025, to be part of the upcoming Summer Schools in France program.
